The One Minute Award short film competition is open to the general public, with the theme 'One Minute China'. Chris Berry (Professor of Film and Television Studies and Co-Director of the Goldsmiths Media Research Programme) John Quick (Co-ordinator of MA in Documentary by Practice, Director of Graduate Studies, Royal Holloway University of London) Dr. Wang Tao (Senior Lecturer in Chinese Archaeology, SOAS University of London) Gideon Koppel (award-winning director of Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival) Hugh Purcell (Consultant, One World Broadcasting Trust) have agreed to be on our jury. Since the beginning we have already received overwhelming responses from both professional and amateur filmmaker communities. 30 selected submissions will be screened during the festival and potentially in China next year. We will retain copyrights in all the contents received for further distribution.

A dedicated postal carrier, Wang Dahe spends most of his days weighed down by letters as he navigates treacherous mountain paths in order ensure that the mail reaches the remote villages of Muli in a timely fashion. The work may be exhausting, but Wang Dahe can always be counted upon to get the job done. Returning home after a particularly grueling day in the thin mountain air, Wang Dahe is approached by his boss to deliver three urgent letters: The first letter is a notification to a township to cease cutting trees, the second is an announcement to elderly cataract sufferers that they can now visit doctors in the nearby town, and the third is an acceptance letter informing a young girl that she has been admitted to college.
