  • The Taiwan Cinefest 2010
     
    The Taiwan Cinefest is Europe’s largest independent Taiwanese film festival showcasing a variety of new and award-winning Taiwanese features, documentaries and short films by established and new film-makers.  The 2010 edition includes 4 UK feature film premieres: Ian Lou’s visually stunning “A Place Of One’s Own”, “Sorry, I Love You” by well-known young talent Yu-Hsien Lin, the comedy romp “Step By Step” and “How Are You Dad”, a brave and moving series of stories surrounding father/son relationships by director, Chang Tso-Chi.  The festival also includes the critically acclaimed “Yang Yang” by Ang Lee mentored, Cheng Yu-Chieh and Chen Huai-en’s “Island Etude”, Taiwan’s official nomination to the 2008 Academy awards for best foreign language picture.

  • The annual New Talent Showcase is a round-up of some of the most exciting and innovative short films made by Taiwanese talent from around the world.  This year our New Talent selection team have chosen 8 short films (most of which have never been seen in the UK before) to screen on Friday 19th March during the 2nd edition of the Taiwan Cinefest. 
     
    In addition, well-known Taiwanese film-maker Yu-Hsien Lin (Jump Boys!, Exit No 6 & Sorry, I Love You) will be in attendance to share his very own short "When the Rain is Over" & hosting an audience Q & A after the screening of  Taiwan documentary mega-hit "Jump Boys!"

Renowned for its high quality screening selections and outstanding industry and academic events, FEF has long been recognised as a symbol of excellence in Chinese cinema.   During the past three years, FEF is not only growing in size but also developing into a year-round presence which is leading the way in Chinese film exhibitions and international cooperation programmes, including this year's BAFTA Global Weekend. FEF is already recognised as the largest Chinese film festival in the UK, benefiting more than 2,000 people directly or indirectly. In 2007 and 2008, the festival was covered by more than 30 media from around the world.

  • Filming East Festival donated £3000 worth of clothing to the areas affected by the devastating earth-quake earlier this month.
  • Filming East starts cooperation with My China Now on experimental shorts
  • One of the partners of Filming East Festival, REC Documentary Biannual has submitted 10 entries to the Filming East Festival
  • Filming East Festival Programmer DING Ni flew to Hong Kong as part of the global promotion scheme

  • Mr WEN RUI, Chairman of the Oxford Chinese Students and Scholars Association (Oxford CSSA) and Miss ZHANG QIAN QIAN, the Communication Officer of Oxford CSSA are working with us in promotions in the Oxford region.
  • One Minute Award continues to receive overwhelming responses from across the UK, thanks to Helen our Operations Programmer and Jet Sun, the Artistic Director.

  • During his last visit to Oxford, FEF Manager Yang Xiao had invited the Lord Mayor of Oxford to addressing the opening of the Filming East Festival.
  • The venue of the festival is confirmed to be the Ultimate Picture Palace in Oxford
  • FEF is now making sponsorship deals with a number interested companies, thanks to Lai Wei, our Marketing Officer and Dawei Guo, our Special Advisor.
  • Mr ZHU RI KUN, the most significant Chinese independent film distributor and festival curator, and Li Xianting's Film Fund is now supplying FEF with top class films.

  • Appeal from Mr Wu Xun, head of the Culture Section of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, for the Filming East Festival to become a purely innovative, realistic, meaningful and sustainable annual event, during the three-hour visit by the FEF Director Xiaoxiao Sun and Development & Communication Manager Wei Bu to the Culture Section office at Hampstead in July.
  • Meeting between the FEF Director Xiaoxiao Sun and Oxdox: MK curator John Hodges in July opens up more international opportunities for the Filming East Festival 2007.
  • BECTU is now supporting the Filming East Festival and the FEF website: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/group/3275/. We have also established a good workign relationship with the union, thanks to Joia, FEF Advisor.
  • Agreement has been made with Sinoreel’s to screen their productions in the UK on FEF.
  • FEF Development & Communication Manager Wei Bu is working on our partnership with Phoenix TV.
  • Many agreements on our future co-operations with the CSSA Oxford were reached during the coffee meeting in July with the president, Dr. Wen Rui.
  • We are now receiving massive supports from the CSSA groups across the UK, thanks to Mr. Wang Yong Da, head of the Education Section and Mr. Zhang Zong Ming, embassy secretary.
  • One Minute short film submissions are doing great in London, thanks to Miss Helen He, our Operations Programmer.
  • We are also receiving feature film submissions from the Department of Television Studies, Communications University of China, thanks to Mr. Mingrui Ye, our China Representative.
  • FEF curator will be inviting films from the Memory of the Mid-Summer Festival, thanks to our friends at the Department of Television Studies, Communications University of China.
  • The new jury list for the one minute award: Prof. Chris Berry, Prof. Tao Wang, John Quic, Hugh Purcell, Gideon Koppel.
  • FEF Manager Yang Xiao and Special Advisor David Guo visited and gained support from the Oxford city council.
  • FEF website gets the brand new look, thanks to Yan Xiang, our Techical Director.
